Civil Organizations - Authoritarian and Constitutional Democracies

Non-profit and civil organizations are created by groups of people who want to try to make a difference in their world. In the United States, there are hundreds of these organizations that put out their message and try to bring national attention to a certain cause. Civil and non-profit organizations make an impact in our nation by influencing for change and the bettering of our society; however they have a distinct effect in different types of governments like authoritarian, totalitarian, and constitutional democracies. .
These organizations bring awareness to issues that affect different cultures and society as a whole. For example, one that has become well known due to the effort of volunteers is an organization like Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). MADD works to raise public disapproval of drunk driving to ultimately reduce traffic fatalities in the United States. This shows how these types of awareness organizations can impact the people of the nation by educating them and changing their way of thinking about issues that can be dangerous in the short and long run. Bringing issues, like drunk driving, to the attention of the public eye helps serve as a call for action from the citizens and the government. Whether it is in the state or federal government, organizations like these have made an impact by changing the laws for the good of the people. .
Although non-profit and civil organizations make a difference in the United States, somewhere where they have no affect is in countries that have an authoritarian or totalitarian government. Countries like Cuba, North Korea, and Iran have governments where the voice of the people is not heard because the governmental power is given to one person. The leader has complete authority and tries to control every aspect of the citizens' lives. For example, they do not allow freedom of speech because the government does not work for the good of the people, but for the benefit of the leader.
