The Oldsmobile Toronado

It was an engineering feat for Oldsmobile; it's a vehicle with true power and beauty, which no other car can compare. Based off the Riviera, it took off in 1966 taking the Car Of The Year Award right out of the hands of all the other competitors. Master engineering from the best of what GM had to offer, twelve years in the making. Front wheel drive, and very luxurious. Throw it all together and you get a Toronado. The Oldsmobile Toronado was, and still is an amazing car. The Toronado got Motor Trend's car of the year award in 1966. They said "We feel pleasure and pride in presenting the 1966 car of the year award to Oldsmobile division of General Motors for its Toronado. We say pride as well as pleasure, because never in the 14 year history of this award has the choice been so obvious and unanimous. The Toronado is symbolic of resurgence of imaginative engineering and tasteful styling in the U.S. auto industry" (Motor Trend Magazine 1966). Motor Trend was amazed at the perfect mix between luxury and power. Which no other car was able to win so unanimously. That's what makes this car so unbelievably amazing.
The Toronado was a trust worthy car that was built to be the Mid-class racer. With its ability to match the needs of a "big wig" and the "every day schmo" it was a perfect match for any one. It had leather bench (if you got lucky bucket seats) seats with AM/FM wonder bar radio. The wonder bar radio was one of the first AM/FM radio which allowed us to chose between AM/FM by sliding a bar side to side. What was also a big back in the sixties was the flat floor. What made it possible was that the Toronado didn't need a drive train. This is because the Toronado is a front wheel drive car. (1966-1970 Oldsmobile Toronado). In the sixties the only car the people could get that was front wheel drive was already thirty years old and it wasn't a very large car. People loved the flat floor because it was uncommon; it was new to the cars.
