Imperialism in the Movie Avatar

Released in 2009 the movie Avatar written and directed by James Cameron, tells the story of a paraplegic marine who is dispatched to a distant planet called Pandora to fight against the natives of that planet in support of a greedy corporation. Instead, he learns that the people of Pandora, called Na'vi are harmless but they will go to the extremes to protect anything and everything on their home planet. In a deal that would let Jake get his legs back by a surgery that repairs his spine, this deal would only be agreed upon if Jake would get the natives to move out of their home tree. Through several months of learning the way of the Na'vi, Jake Sully, played by Sam Worthington, quickly realizes that the lives of the Na'vi are way more important than surgery to get his legs back and the ability to walk again. .
In Avatar the themes of imperialism are shown a lot. Imperialism is the policy of extending the rule or authority of an empire or nation over foreign countries, or of acquiring and holding colonies and dependencies. The whole movie is an example of imperialism with a money hungry company coming to an inhabited land and claiming it for that company disregarding the natives. This example of imperialism is the starting point of all the other examples of it. One example of imperialism is a strong military presence by one country to try and take over another country. In this case it's the company trying to take over pandora. You can see in the first half hour of the movie the amount of money the company uses to build weapons and armor. There is Robots, Helicopters, Gunships, and many guns used to stop the Na'vi. .
Another example of imperialism is when one country physically tries and takes over someones land, not just politically. In the movie Avatar you see this a lot, the reason the humans are there is for money and the only way they can get that is if they expand their area and take over the native land.
