Male and Female Behavioral Differences

The differences between males and females will always be controversial. Aries (1996) highlights the public recognition of various works in the era such as Gray's, "Men are from Mars, and Women are from Venus." Many argue that behavioral differences between men and women are mostly due to differences in brain structure, while others argue that sex differences are largely the result of social conditioning. This essay will discuss the causes of different behavior between males and females, and will examine both sides of the argument. The recent study confirms that the brain structure of males and females is different and it is one of the reasons why they behave differently. Firstly, we need to know that Men's cranium size is 2% larger so this explains why size and weight of men's brain are 10-12% larger and men have 4% more brain cells than women. Another point is men have 6.5 times more gray matter, whereas women have 10 times more white matter. Gray matter is associated with information processing and it makes some men excel at math. This difference makes women's brain set up to be more complicated as when women think they tend to use white matter which consists of more connections between neurons. Moreover, these connections make women think faster than men. .
In addition, the occipital lobes are more developed in men and these allow them to see better in bright light, so it indicates why men are good at driving and finding new routes. Nevertheless, women usually perform better in verbal memory tasks, verbal fluency, articulation speed and artistic expressiveness as their communication-oriented left hemisphere is more developed. Thirdly, the corpus callosum creates synapses between the two brain sides. As the corpus callosum is larger in women than in men, women can use both hemispheres at the same time, making it possible for them to multitask, for instance cooking while reading recipes and talking with writing.
