Career Path Essay - Criminal Justice

I am presently a Criminal Justice student of Collin College, Plano, Texas. After my studies, I intend to become a member of the Nigerian parliament or member of the United States Police Force. My first choice is to join the United States Police Force. I made this choice because of my steadfast love for "Freedom, Peace, Justice, and Development". The desire to "Serve and Protect" started from my childhood and formative years. As a child, I derive great joy in serving my family, community, state, country, and people, not minding the hardship that I encountered, but endured. I was a member of the Nigerian Boys Scout during my childhood years. I am always prepared because, as a "Boy Scout", "Be Prepared" is our Motto. I was always ready for anything, anytime. By reason of my, childhood experience and encounters I chose a career to serve and to protect mankind. The duty of a Police Officer/Nigeria Security Parliamentarian is "My Career".
I conducted intensive research in my career path which included, acquiring professional knowledge about the origin of the word "Police", the job outlook, education, experience required, job description, similar occupation, work environment and its future operation and functions. My research involved interviewing an active member of the Police Force and reading books on "Policing". I interviewed Police Officer Jerrod Bell of Plano Police Department. He is a DART Police Officer, and read other books including "Policing in America", written in 2008 by Leonard Steverson. Steverson was an assistant professor of Sociology at South Georgia College, he teaches sociology and criminal justice. According to Steverson, the word "Police" can be traced to early Greek and Roman law. Their duties were providing safety and welfare to people living in municipalities and promoted the responsibilities of city government in many areas of public life which included: crime control, management of unruly crowd and behavior, the fighting of fires, and the maintenance of health and sanitation.
