Children and Counseling Intervention

0 CLIENT CENTERED THEORY AND SKILLS IN CONDUCTING A SESSION.
From my point of view, guidance and counseling is a concept of helping individuals discover and develop their psychological, educational, and vocational potentialities, to achieve an optimal level of personal happiness and social usefulness. It is essentially democratic in that each individual has the right to shape his own destiny. I have chosen Shaidi Nur Hisham bin Shaidi as my client for my guidance session task. Shaidi Nur Hisham bin Shaidi is from 5 UPM, and his father and mother had divorced when he was still a small child. Frankly speaking, I was his English teacher and often saw him fall asleep during my class. So I decided to ask every subject teachers that teach him and they said he did the same thing during their class. I do some research about his family background by seeking information with his classroom teacher. On 8th March 2015, 11.00 a.m. I had conducted a guidance session with him until 11.30 a.m.
I had applied a Person-Centered Theory developed by Carl. R Rogers. This theory was first known as client-centered theory. Rogers expressed his sympathy for the approach that based on the theory which individuals are unreliable and should instead be forced, encouraged, fine, be recognized, controlled and managed by others who has more authority, higher position or a specialist in a particular field. He stressed that there are three qualities that therapists can create an encouraging environment which can construct one's self that allows them to move forward and become what in fact they can or can do. These three attributes are congruence (sincerity and purity), unconditional acceptance, an in-depth understanding and accurate empathy (ability to dive deep feelings of others). ( Carl Roger,1951).
Rogers point of view stated that if all these properties can be used by the therapist assisted the parties will be more independent and be more open with themselves, do not underestimate their potential and be sure that they can get along in society in a more constructive manner.
