Racism and Open-Minded Children

Children should be taught to be less judgmental based on accidentals. Children grow up learning from their parents that it's all right to judge a person based on skin color, religion, and culture. Children need to stop following their parents' ways of thinking and branch out on their own and make their own decisions. As a parent, one needs to show a child that having physical experiences with a person is the correct way to make a judgment about that person. .
Not only should parents show children to be more open minded but teachers as well should show children to be more open minded. Assistant Professor Thayer-Bacon states, "If a person has no realization that there is more than one point of view, and what her point of view is, then she will not be aware that she can be wrong, or that she can misunderstand a problem" (4) I believe that Thayer-Bacon is correct with this statement because parents need to teach their children that there is more than one point of view and children shouldn't judge a person based on how they look or the color of their skin. A parent needs to show a child the correct way to make a judgment about a person is to physically interact with that person and find out reliable information from that person. One cannot grow up learning that there is only one point of view. We as people are not different. .
People's skin color, religion, and culture are different but as real humans beings we are not different. Children need to grow up learning that people are all human and people may praise a different god or indulge in a different culture, but as people we are all here for the same reason, to be successful in life. Parents need to teach their children that everyone on this planet was born for the same reason, to grow up, learn and improve their abilities, and live a successful and enjoyable life. Teachers also play a very important role in making children more open minded.
