There are over 2 billion Christians in the world today. This is such a profound statistic in a society where religion seems to be a main reason for disagreement in many countries. Is it the debate of good vs. evil? Or is it possible to adopt the idea of good vs. good? There are over 40,000 denominations that fall under Christianity and Baptist and Catholics are two of some of the most common or recognizable. "Baptist" means one who believes in the adult baptism of believers in Jesus. Catholic mean "universal" under the Roman Catholic church. Whatever denomination one might choose, ultimately religion will always maintain a strong unity, connected directly to the core of which people believe and practice. While both are labeled Christians, Baptist and Catholics share a profound belief for much of the same thing that is clear, yet not so clear at times( such as rituals, doctrine and salvation).
Many religions have certain types of 'rituals' that they feel are the core of worship. As a Christian, two important rituals are baptism and the Lords supper. As a Baptist, the church believes baptism is for adults or one who is at the age of understanding of what it represents. This belief is based on the New testament, which never mentions infants or small children being baptized. Also with Baptist, the act of being baptized has no part of salvation itself. When partaking in the Lords supper, Baptist decide on the timing by the agreement of the pastor and congregation when they feel it's time to be done and its normally quarterly. This way of worship consist of bread and juice symbolizing his body and blood and is done in remembrance of his sacrifice. As with Catholics, both these ways of worship are also done, but the time makes them different. Baptism is done by Catholics soon after a new baby is born by a priest with the mark of Holy water on the Childs forehead. Catholics believe that it is necessary not only to believe and confess but to be baptized to obtain the right to go to heaven.
