There was no handbook in how to do this, no tool to make this any easier. What do I even talk to her about anymore? Boys? No, too young. And I don't want her thinking I approve of that yet. She's too old for the generic, child answers, but far too young for adult questions about herself. I looked at her from my peripheral sight to take a measurement of the mood I was dealing with.
