The Pro-Life and Pro-Choice Controversy

Conservatives believed that if you were conceived from human parents you are now a human being who holds the same or equal rights as any other human being. Therefore, once conceived, the mother does not hold the power to abort the fetus under any circumstances. The definition of a "human being" is any being that holds a genetic code. There is, however, one exception. The only case abortion would be permissible would be if the fetus was seriously defective or was a danger to life of the mother. (Marquis. 183).
Lastly, the third philosophical view on the issue of abortion is the moderate view. Many would say this view is the one that lies right in between the other two. This view focuses on the permissibility of abortion based on the time limit and includes specific indications for later abortions. In summary, the ideas of this group are that abortion is permissible in the early months of pregnancy when the fetus hardly resembles a baby at all. It is in the interests of the pregnant woman and her family. In the middle months of a pregnancy, when the fetus begins to resemble an actual human being, abortion is permissible only if the fetus would cause physical, psychological, economic, or social harm. In the final months of pregnancy, abortion seems to be wrong and immoral. The only way it is permissible is to save the mother from death or injury. This view is in between the Liberal and Conservative views. It argues that both sides are correct but with many exceptions and standards.
Abortion is a controversial matter in society today. However, it is not widely discussed and many would rather not be included in the argument because it is such a huge issue of morality and ethics. The biggest problem with abortion is the arguments people use to justify their own personal beliefs. What may be unethical or immoral to one may not be to another. There obviously is no right or wrong answer because there are many factors and circumstances to focus on.
