Perspectives on Crime Control

            
             What roles does the crime control perspective play in your thinking regarding the application of the constitution?.
             The primary concern of the crime control perspective is to protect the society and maintain law and order. It enforces the laws as outlined in the constitution. In exercising the various crime control procedures, the law enforcers are also expected to obey the rule of law. The constitution clearly spells out the rights of rights of suspects and the consequences of breaking certain laws. What the crime control does is to ensure that, as they handle various criminal suspects or punishing the law breakers, they must do so in a fair and just manner. In the case where someone is suspected of a crime, the constitution allows the person to undergo an investigation to ascertain if the charges are correct. The constitution grants the law enforcement officials the power to collect evidence in order to prove beyond reasonable doubt whether the person charged has committed the crime or not. If he is found guilty, the law allows the law enforcers to issue the convict a penalty as stated by the law depending on the magnitude and nature of the crime committed.
             The failure of law enforcement to bring criminal conduct under control can be viewed as leading to the breakdown of public order and hence the disappearance of human freedom. The constitution spells out the rights and freedom that each individual is entitled to. The crime control perspective uses these rights under the bill of rights in the constitution to ensure that no body is deprived of his or her rights unless it is recommended by law. In policing for instance, the Law Enforcement Code of Conduct specifies that one of the main duties of police is to protect people's rights, provide important services to the community, as well as enforce the law, prevent crime, and uphold the peace (International Association of Chiefs of Police, 2008).
