The second group has words that deal with political or ideology meaning. A lot of words are reduced further to simple words. For example, the thought police are pressed down to thinkpol. The third group has science and science like fields words. This is to control knowledge, because too much knowledge that someone can attain is too dangerous. Ingsoc, covers a lot of meaning, including science. Once Newspeak is in place, if you come across older written works, it would be next to impossible to translate and thereby not able to come across revolutionary ideas and discovering other ways of fully living life.
"War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength," is the official slogan of the Party. This introduces the idea of doublethink, which is psychological manipulation of the ability to hold believe and not believe the same idea. In the book, Winston can believe that 2+2=4 and also believe at the same time that 2+2=5.Another great example of double speak, happens during Hate week during the rally. Everyone is "expressing" their hate for Eurasia and then the announcer says very seriously that Eurasia is their ally and it was Eastasia who they have been at war with this whole time. The people suddenly feel embarrass for "hating" their "ally" and just accepts what was told to them, with no questions. This again weakens an individual's independence and having no room for real thought. Winston is constantly living in a world of fear; a fear that is brought on by forcing anything the Party states is true, propaganda at its full strength. By stating that War is Peace, the party is keeping its members focus on its enemy and working together to be a better front for this war. Freedom is slavery can mean that if a person can express individual thought and ideas can chain them to danger and discontentment. Ignorance is strength can point to people not being to recognize what is truly wrong and thus giving the government strength to protect them.
