Biography of Richard Nixon

In the famous election campaign of 1960, Richard Nixon ran for president versus Democrat John F. Kennedy. The campaigns were the first time people had an up-front live debate between two candidates. Nixon's physical appearance compared to Kennedys appeared to many as sickly and pale. Those who heard the debate by radio thought Richard Nixon won, but those who saw the debate on television clearly saw things more in favor of the calmer Kennedy. This lead many people to believe this was the primary cause of his narrow lost. In the next two years Richard Nixon returned to California to write. In 1962 he lost a bid to state governor and many people thought this was the end of Richard Nixon's political career. In 1964 Lyndon B. Johnson won the presidency easily for the Democratic Party. Despite everything Richard Nixon made another run for presidency in 1968. During this time the United States had been dealing with much political and social mayhem. He also helped establish a better relationship with China. .
On the evening of July 15, 1971, Richard Nixon appeared on live television from a studio in Burbank, California to inform the nation that he would be embarking on a historic trip to China early the following year.
