Jealousy


            
             The definition, according to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, of jealousy is a jealous disposition, attitude or feeling; a zealous vigilance. The definition of jealous is intolerant of rivalry or unfaithfulness; hostile toward a rival or one believed to enjoy an advantage. The word stems from the French word jalousie, formed from jaloux (jealous) and further from Low Latin zelous and from the Greek word for "ardour, zeal" with a root meaning "to boil, ferment or yeast(rise).
             Jealousy is an emotion experienced by one who perceives that attention, love or affection being given to a third party when it should rightfully be given to them. For example, a jealous lover might dislike their partner spending time with other members of the opposite sex, because they feel that they are the only one that the mate should show attention. Jealousy does not have to be against a member of the opposite sex, it can be toward family members, friends, jobs, or material things such as boats or cars; anything that the person feels is getting more attention than they are.
             Jealousy is also a form of the deadly sin of envy. It implies a feeling of personal claim. For example, there can be jealousy felt because someone has more money than you, because they drive a better car than you, they have a better job than you, a bigger house and so on and so on.
             Undo jealousy can tear apart marital relationships if one partner is so jealous that no matter what the other is doing or who the other partner is seeing for what reason the first partner becomes obsessed and unreasonable. .
             Jealousy works to destroy families. If one sibling feels that, another is loved more than they are or that the other gets more attention or material things that sibling will eventually cause so much trouble in the family that it will lead to destruction. Jealousy can make people do and say terrible things, even so far as to take someone's life.
