Sevant Leadership in the Christian Church

With God as the central cornerstone for the leader, true biblical leadership can be fostered to those they are leading as the accountability level is not just to the board members but to the ruler of their life first. Daniel shares in scripture in regard to God being the leader first, in Daniel 12:3 New International Version, "Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever" (2004). The biblical leader understands that there is a higher accountability to God because of the values of the lives and souls the leader is impacting both here on earth and for the future. Since God is the focus of biblical leadership, the next logical step the leader can utilize is mirroring the leadership style of Jesus.
Jesus Christ displayed various examples in real life leadership situations throughout His earthly ministry from which an effective biblical leader can gleam insight and knowledge. Jesus dealt with leadership structures that were carrying differing viewpoints on how to lead politically, spiritually, and practically in various relationship structures. Jesus led through His actions, but also through His words through parables, recitation of past scripture, as well as prophecies and decrees. Biblical leaders, according to Roger Parrott, PhD. in his book, The Longview: Lasting Strategies for Rising Leaders, can follow Jesus' actions and words in dealing with relative issues or conflicts while displaying that "our objective must never be to manipulate those we sere into our image but rather to help prune and grow them into the image of Christ" (Parrott, 2009, p. 98). .
Jesus also took time to develop personal areas within the various inner members of His circle, working on their strengths and weaknesses. Jesus stated in reply to one of Thomas' inquiries for leadership in John 14:6-7 answering, "I am the way and the truth and the life.
