"Brutus is just as cute as Caesar, right? Brutus is just as smart as Caesar, people totally like Brutus just as much as they like Caesar, and when did it become okay for one person to be the boss of everybody because that's not what Rome is about! We should totally just STAB CAESAR!" (I). It has been widely debated whether or not the movie Mean Girls is just a modern day adaptation of Shakespeare's The Tragedy of Julius Caesar. The Tragedy of Julius Caesar focuses on the main character, Brutus, and his co-conspirators ending the life of soon-to-be dictator Julius Caesar. On the other hand, Mean Girls is a classic teenage drama, in which the protagonist, Cady Heron, is pressured into a scheme to end the popularity of Regina George, the mean ring leader of the "plastics". These two stories are significantly similar in many ways, such as each story sharing characters with parallel traits, both stories containing a power struggle, and having a protagonist with plots to ruin another main character. Pairs like Julius Caesar and Regina George, Brutus and Cady Heron, and Cassius and Janis Ian both share characteristics that are arguably similar. The 'Caesars' and 'Brutus'' both struggle to rule Rome/the school. Finally, Brutus and Cady both conspire with others to end Caesar and Regina's power. .
The Tragedy of Julius Caesar and Mean Girls both involve characters with surprisingly identical attributes. To begin, Julius Caesar and Regina George are both influential, loved, and feared people in their own worlds. Julius Caesar is basically worshipped in the start of the play, with everyone wanting "to see Caesar and to rejoice in his triumph" (II), even though Caesar has had a ruthless history, such as him tracking down the previous leader of Rome to another country and slaying him. In a similar leadership position, Regina George is admired by her entire school, despite her constant bullying.
