Anti-Gay Marriage Court Cases

Social attitudes aimed at same sex relationships have been present since Ancient Greek and Roman times. The Greeks were known for their many mentorships and same sex relationships. There is much evidence that echoes through their culture to show this: vases, statues, myths, speeches and oratory, tragedies and comedies, and inscriptions in which homosexual acts are mentioned, praised, and sometimes harshly discouraged. However, homosexuality did not just start and stop with the Greeks. Homosexual behavior is a real affair that has aggrandized itself and has a strong presence, and is even being debated in our Supreme Court today. While the Greek same sex practice was geared towards mentorship, same sex practice in modern times is geared more towards pleasure, sex, and even marriage. While gay marriage has always been unlawful and illegal and prohibited, since ________ there are thirteen states that have ruled in favor of same sex marriage making it a legal practice. This country came to that consensus through many court cases: Griswold v. Connecticut (1965), Eisenstadt v. Baird (1972), Carey v. Population Services International (1977), Roe v. Wade (1973), Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania (1992), Lawrence v. Texas (2003), United States v. Windsor (2013), and lastly Obergefell v. Hodges (2015). All these court cases, though not all directly linked to homosexuality, have directly affected the rationale behind it. Many institutions as well have been affected. The Catholic Church itself has been attacked most due to its fidelity and teaching on marriage-the conjugal and sacred union being between a man and a woman. "In January, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued a mandate under the Affordable Care Act (also known as "Obamacare") that requires all employer health plans to provide free contraceptives, sterilizations and abortion-inducing drugs, regardless of any moral or religious objections" (HHS Mandate).
