Climate Change in the Pacific


            
             This report is written on an investigation carried out in the University of The South Pacific on the impacts of climate change in Pacific Islands dealing with the students affected and the steps they are taking in order to fight it. The method used to meet the objectives included distributing questionnaires and carrying out research. The results show that the major cause of climate change are the different types of air pollution contributing to the major effect which is rise in sea level. People are carrying out activities to fight climate change but not enough is being done. This report also makes recommendations as to how to reduce climate change.
             Introduction .
             Small island developing countries are among the most vulnerable to climate change. During this century, these countries are facing increasing threats to sustainable development from the impacts of climate change. This research is about the causes and effects of climate change in the Pacific and how aware tertiary students are about it. The overall aim of this report is to identify the major factors of climate change and what is being done by tertiary students, governments and NGO's to fight it. As stated by Australian Conservation Foundation climate change is the consequence of unchecked pollution. When carbon emissions caused by human activity enter the air they have dangerous effects on the environment, the economy, and our wellbeing. But just as humans cause it, we can halt its progress [ CITATION wha159 l 1033 ].
             The terms of reference are as follows:.
             a) To identify the three most common causes and effects of climate change in the Pacific.
             b) To analyze and evaluate how well informed students are about the impact of climatic change on Pacific islands.
             c)  To evaluate the effectiveness of various programs run by NGOs and governments to educate people about climate change.
             d)  To make recommendations on how tertiary students can play a more active role in the fight against climate change.
