Parental Perception of Preschool Child Body Weight

The main variable was modifying factors. These included structural-parental health literacy and demographics. The other two dependant variables were perceived notion of health (perception of health weight) and perceived behavioural control (perceived parental efficacy). This research utilized two methods to obtain data. The first method involved personal interviews with the participants. The participants were also given questionnaires to fill. The second method involved obtaining data from the medical records of the children. The two sites for data collection were consciously chosen to increase the total sample diversity in ethnicity and economic variables. The research was first set to achieve an alpha of 0.05 and a power of 0.80. As a result, a minimum of 45 participants per group, as well as, a total sample size of 120 was predetermined. Each subject took a total period of fifteen to twenty minutes to complete the questionnaires. After identifying a potential participant, the researchers would approach them in a clinical setting. The researcher would allow enough time to discuss the study with the participant and offer a chance to ask questions. Participants who consented were taken to a private room where study instruments were administered in a private place.
             Data Management and Analysis.
After the study, the collected data was safely kept in a files' cabinet in the researcher's office. De-identification of data was done before entering into any encrypted database. Reporting of the data was done in an aggregate format to prevent identification of the data. The SPSS-PC (Version 14.0) software was used to carry out statistical analysis of the data. Descriptive statistics were largely used to evaluate the distributions' shapes of indiscrete data, as well as, evaluating the data values. Additionally, data from the PSOC-Efficacy subscale, SToFHLA, CFQ, and indiscrete data from the physiological measures such as the child BMI and parental age, and the demographic data were not distributed normally.
