Montang in Fahrenheit 451

If it wasnt for Clarisse Montang wouldnt have asked Mildred this question because before he met Clarisse he really didn't think about how his life was . Clarisse had the most influence on him and especially after her death, it made Montang start looking at things differently and have a different perspective on life. Her imagination and personality is what rubbed on him and thats when he start to look at the world and question the society he lives in .
Montang questions the purpose of his job and society when an old women dies because of her love for books. Montang starts to realize how burning books is destructive. This is when his internal conflict messes with him more by questing his job as a fireman and trying to understand the purpose of books. Even though Montang is confused about his identity right now he goes against society . He wants to understand what is so meaningful and important in books that someone decided to take away their life because of books. Montang is looking for answers which is why he starts reading books which is against society and especially against his job because he is in charge of burning them not reading them. This is when Montang doesn't understand what he is reading so he turns to Mildred who obviously does not help so he goes to Faber for help.
Many things influenced Montang to change especially the old woman. When Montang saw his own eyes the old woman burn herself with her books , he started to realize that maybe books were worth reading and maybe they did have something important in them after all. This is when Montag decided to contact Faber, a retired English professor. Faber was sort of like Clarisse he challenged Montag's mind. He made Montang question the world around him . Faber taught Montang about books because Montang was so curious about it and answers many of Montangs questions about why books are important. Faber and Montang have plans to bring down the book-burning industry.
