The Six Primary Regions of the USA


Virginia, named after "Virgin Queen" Elizabeth I, is a place where the U.S. military symbol "the Pentagon" is located. In 1861 forty western counties detached from Virginia and formed the state of West Virginia which is popular for its natural resources.
             The South region is composed of North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Florida. This region is located below Mid-Atlantic, it spreads to the West and borders with Southwest. Its main domain is a wide range of music styles such as the black blues and white country music. People there are known for their warmth and kindness. North Carolina has 100 counties. Its capital is Raleigh, and its largest city is Charlotte. The state is famous for its tobacco, textiles and furniture industry. Its great pride it the University of North Carolina which is the most prominent institute of higher learning in the South. South Carolina seceded from North Carolina in 1729, before the War of Independence. It contains 46 counties and its capital is Columbia. The main industries of the state are manufacture of textiles and cotton production. Kentucky is a state bordered by Northeast and the Southeast. It is known for its tobacco fields and horse races. Today the state it often associated with the chain of fast-food restaurants called "KFC" ("Kentucky Fried Chicken"). Tennessee is a place where originally three groups of Native Americans lived: Cherokee, Chickasaw and Creek. The state capital is Nashville which strongly contributed to the development of country music. Tennessee was also a site of many battles. Mississippi's most characteristic feature is its climate – it has hot summers and high risk of tornadoes. The production of cotton is very important because the state's economy depends on it. Alabama is known for years as a source of cheap hydroelectric power. Georgia is the biggest state in the region.
