Apartheid in Africa

Apartheid is a practice in which colored people were separated from white people. They were forced to go live with other people of their color. Black people had to carry around passport like books, with their I.D, where they could live, and be. These pass like things were good for 72 hours and if a colored person were caught with an expired pass they were arrested, fined, and jailed. The colored people were only given things of sub-standard value, while white persons were given things of high standards. The colored people lived in certain places and were only allowed to go in certain places of beaches, parks, hospitals, schools, and many more areas. .
Officials (high ranking white people) were the ones to decide weather you were white or black. If they could not decide this from the coloring of your skin they would use something called a "pencil in hair test". This test was preformed by pushing a pencil into some ones hair. If the pencil stayed in they considered it "frizzy" hair and that person was then classified as a colored person. If the pencil fell out they were considered a white person. This supposed test was not accurate at all and caused many families to be torn apart. Many children were left abandoned with no parents to care for them because the parents were considered one color and the children another. These tests results resulted in many colored people being classified as white people and white people being classified as black.
