America and Russia: 1945-1946

Why relations between the USA and USSR changed in the years 1946-1949?.
There were several factors as to why relations between the USA and the USSR changed between the years of 1946 to 1949. One of these factors was that Truman had set up the Truman Doctrine in 1947 to stop the spread of communism, as seen in the source. This worsened relations between the USA and USSR because the Truman Doctrine was backed by the Marshall plan which supplied money to countries that were part of the Truman Doctrine and this was directly helping countries not to become communist and therefor directly went against Stalin's idea of Soviet expansion. This created tension between the two countries as the USA was now using money and threats against the USSR to stop their expansion. .
Another reason for why relations between the USSR and the USA worsened between 1946 and 1949 was the fact that Stalin had set up Cominform, as seen in the source, in a response to the Truman Doctrine and the Marshall plan in order to protect and expand the soviet 'sphere of influence'. Cominform created tension between the two sides because now that Russia had gone back on their agreements from Potsdam Stalin needed to coordinate how these countries would be ran. He specially chose the leaders of each country she didn't want anyone to independent minded and need people who were totally loyal to him so that they didn't make any decisions without Stalin's approval. .
Stalin set up Comecon, as seen in the source, in 1947 which was a key factor that caused relations from 1946 to 1949 get worst between the USA and the USSR because this was set up by Stalin so that the eastern European and communist countries could easily trade between without having to trade with the west. This created tension between the two sides as it meant that the USSR were building there links with other communist countries. .
