The Lost City of Machu Picchu

There are many human-caused changes that occurred to the landform. One such change is the beer commercial that was allowed to be filmed on Machu Picchu and one of cameras broke off a piece of the carved stone pillar that is part of the most important shrine in the site. Other potential human-caused changes are "deforestation, the risk of landslides, uncontrolled urban development and illegal access to the sanctuary". Not only are there problems at the site itself, people in the surrounding cities have loss land and increasingly contaminated water since the sewage system doesn't support so many people using it. Furthermore, local people have also undergone rising food prices, because tourists will pay more for food or anything available to them. Tourists are a huge part of Machu Picchu at this point. About 1,400 people visit Machu Picchu every day, that's 511,000 a year. This is a lot of people visiting one place, but from what I read a lot of people enjoyed visiting Machu Picchu and thought it was absolutely breathtaking. Though tourists are the main people responsible for the human- caused changes occurring to Machu Picchu they do help the surrounding economy. The tourists bring a lot of money to Peru that could potentially help with the preservation of Machu Picchu. Furthermore, the more tourist that visits Machu Picchu the more tourist that will come in the future because the best way to advertise something is by word of mouth. Therefore, if someone comes to visit then come home describing how beautiful it was that makes another person or people want to go visit and so for themselves. In the end more people visiting the "lost city" bring more money to Peru with the hope that something can be done to preserve the site so that people can still visit without Machu Picchu or the surrounding cities being destroyed in the process. .
Politics isn't a big part of how things are run in Machu Picchu.
