Why Children Need Stable Families

(Murphy, 2014) "Reacting with criticism or dismissing the sadness or anger of a child communicates that their emotions are not valid or appropriate, which can cause children to be even more prone to those negative emotions and less able to cope with stress"(Murphy, 2014) "Instead, guiding children's emotions and helping them find ways to express themselves in a healthy manner helps them continue regulating their responses to challenges and even aids their academic and social competence"(Murphy, 2014). This sort of emotion coaching from parents helps prevent future behavior problems that may develop if not considered by caregivers. "Parenting decisions affect how children turn out physically, socially, and emotionally, but that is not to say parents should be obsessed with following certain steps to have a perfectly well-adjusted child"(Murphy, 2014) Essentially, this means that the parental affection and guidance that a child receives from its caregivers has a great affect on the environment that the child lives in, whether it is a positive one in which a child can grow properly, or a negative one where a child's emotional being is delayed.
2.1.2 Stability of Environment (Noise, Financial, Intellectual).
"According to studies conducted by environmental and developmental psychologist Gary Evans, a Cornell University professor, loud, overcrowded living conditions can negatively affect a child's social and emotional development"(Secor, N/A) "Research found these environments often resulted in parents speaking less to children, and using shorter words when they did. For infants and toddlers, reduced interaction can affect their ability to connect with other people" (Secor, N/A). Children usually cope with noise and crowding of space by tuning out sounds, including speech, which can possibly interfere with their emotional development.
