Underground Railroad

"The Underground Railroad" In Floyd County, Indiana. North Carolina: MacFarland and Company, 2001.
In her book Pamela Peters points out key individuals in the Floyd County, who helped with the underground railroad. She helps with my claim that some key people who helped and were acknowledged for their contribution may have been in for their own profit. She is very credible source because her aim for writing this book was like mine. She also lived and experienced daily the tension and hostility that was among the community of Floyd County, Indiana. She was very interested in finding out information that other individuals were not able to uncover. She used great detail on key individuals that played major roles and risked their lives daily to free slaves. Some individuals she elaborated on were, "Henson McIntosh, William Harding, George Washington Carter and Louis Hartman." pg 120-129. She goes in great detail of the struggles of the individuals that helped. Yet she also took the initiative of a writer an helped uncover that truths about the individuals such as agents whom were helping because $50.00 a slave was a lot more important than being humane. I believe that this book will help better understand the trials and tribulations that leaders themselves experienced. She also details the struggles that these key people experienced everyday. It helps understand how well constructed these individuals were. It also describes the risks that some of these individuals faced. I think that with further reading and research this book will be one of my definite choices for my bibliography. .
