Question of Love

There are many questions of the universe that humans have struggled to find the answer to. Among the most puzzling questions are those involving love. What is love and whether it really exists or it's just an illusion crated by humans. These are just a few of the questions that have fueled many arguments throughout history.
Love is what makes the world go round. We have all heard sayings to this affect all our lives, but does love really exist. Love is said to be a bond between romantic couples. This bond is what inspires couples to stay together and care for each other. However, is this the full extent of love's power? Many would say that love is much more, something like the bonding of two souls together. The extra meaning is a (no pun intended) romanticized view of love. This illusion is used to make humans feel more in control in the random events that occur on our lives.
The abilities of humans have carried the race to the population of nearly every continent, leaving the Earth, and control a power strong enough to destroy all life on Earth at the push of a button. What is it about our abilities that make us capable of love? Looking at an evolutionary stand point, those who could become bonded to a member of the opposite sex emotionally beyond lust would have better ability to have and protect their offspring who would give this ability to the next generation. The ability to love is simply hard wired into our genes.
If indeed, the ability to love is in our genes than all humans without the appropriate genetic defect will have the ability to love romantically. Although everyone has the ability to love does not mean that everyone will. Many things can cause someone to not seek out or accept the feeling of love; such as pervious bad relationships, lack of morals, tragic childhoods, etc. The Colonel in "The Colonel's Lady" and the Duke in "My Last Duchess" are an example of how this might happen.
