" It's a popular phrase coined by the original Star Trek series in the 1960's. Since then Star Trek has grown to include five successful television series and ten feature length films. To me, the Star Trek universe is an ascertainable future, a future where the human race has set aside its differences and realized that they are not the only beings in the universe; that they must cooperate with each other and with aliens to accomplish their goals. This revelation has inspired me to become a better person.
In the Star Trek universe, humans are the dominant species in a peaceful federation of planets. Hundreds of species in the federation cooperate in the name of peace and protection. You could think of the federation as a large-scale, successful version of the United Nations. Humans have fleets of starships that travel at warp speeds to go where "no one has gone before" to seek out new life and new civilizations. The federation is also governed by the Prime Directive, a document that the founders of the federation created to make sure that the evolution of species and unadvanced civilizations was not interfered with in any way. The ideals that Star Trek has created are motivating. When I come to a predicament in life, I think what would a good federation citizen do. Whenever I do that I come to an intelligent and morally correct decision.
The technology in the Star Trek universe is based on scientific theory, therefore, feasible in the future. Looking at the technology through the television brings me happiness. It shows me that the human race is destined to create many great things as long as we have people like Gene Roddenberry, the creator of Star Trek, living on the planet. Since I put a great amount of thought into what will happen in the future of the human race, this is calming.
Star Trek never has a depressing or gloomy ending. After watching Star Trek, I am intrigued and charmed by the deep and thoughtful issues that were examined.
