One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest/ Society's Pressures

Society constantly encourages individualism among its people, but then shuns the people who exert too much distinctiveness and independence. Today's individuals have been processed and judged by other members of that society, therefore classifying them. Everyone has been taught to classify and judge people based solely on appearance, despite the phrase, "can't judge a book by its cover." These classifications often include, "what's normal" and "what's socially acceptable." There are no guidelines to what is normal or acceptable. There would be less social rivalry if today everyone could remember not to pass judgment based solely on appearance or hearsay. .
The constant pressure of society to be normal is sometimes overwhelming to the strongest of individuals. It is true that some people in society are stronger. There are leaders and there are followers. In every society, whether it is a high school environment, a workplace, or a mental hospital, there are always pressures, judgments, and classifications. A mental hospital's patients reflect the society that shunned them, just as a child can reflect their parents and their parents" actions, beliefs, and prejudices. .
These same people that make up the mental hospital have been judged, wronged, and mistreated. Often people of everyday society are wronged in the same way. Harding was a self-committed patient in the mental asylum; he was judged only because of his sexual preference. Today, homosexuals are mistreated and wronged everyday, sometimes in just sexual slurs, but other times in harassment that can lead to serious injury or even death. Sefelt and Fredrickson were committed because of their seizures, which today, are very treatable and often a common occurrence for some individuals. These people that are so "crazy" are actually just as sane as the people that are running around loose in society.
In society people are often mistreated, just as the people in the asylum were abused.
