Psychological problems related to work

With the growing amount of work in many companies, burnout has become a current issue. in psychology, defines burnout as "a state of fatigue or frustration brought about by a devotion to a cause, a way of life, or a relationship that failed to produce the expected reward"(worterklaerungen). In this definition, no notion of success is involved, so one could deduce that success is not related with burnout, which is partly true. Successful people, like Max Carey, founder and chairman of CRD, can burn out. Max Carey has a great job, a great income and a family he loves. A few years ago, while his company and children were growing, while he was having control of his company and employees, he started to cry in inappropriate moments and couldn't control that. He didn't know what was happening to him, so he went to see a friend who was psychologist who told him he was having a burnout (academic). Unsuccessful people can also have burnout: some pastors retire because they are burning out. For instance, one of them was involved in too many activities and couldn't handle it anymore. He tried to succeed in his job to prove his worth, but this only satisfied his ego. His son was born handicapped and had to be sent away in an institution. He had a propensity towards the Messiah complex (needing to be needed) which leaded him to help too much and later to burnout (pastornet). Both men had a burnout, but one was successful, and the other was not; the cause of burnout isn't actually a lack of success. Burnout is usually associated with stress; and stress is caused by several factors. The most important and frequent factor of stress is extra work; people who work too much and have too many responsibilities feel drawn on several sides and are likely to become confused and don't know anymore what are the priorities. Another significant factor that brings stress is the lack of recognition by the peers.
