Fly Away Peter

There are many similarities and contrasts between the text, Fly Away Peter' by David Malouf and film, All Quiet on the Western Front' directed by Delbert Mann. Many of the characters of both texts have parallels and contrasting points. For instance, Jim Saddler and Paul Bãumer, the main characters from the two texts, were similar in many ways. The conditions, which these characters were placed in, had likenesses and differences. For instance, the patriotic scenes of Brisbane were much a-like the setting at the German high school. There are also the similarities and contrasts of human behaviour such as the cowardice shown by Wizzer during an attack and the courage shown by Paul Bãumer throughout the tougher times at the front. Although the origins of both stories are from either side of World War One, the two texts have many obvious resemblances of each other and many discrepancies.
Human emotion and behaviour from both texts have similarities and contrasts even though they are portrayed from either side of the war. Jim finds himself bullied by an aura surrounding the character, Wizzer. However when he meets Wizzer in a combat situation, Jim discovers that Wizzer is a true coward and hiding away from the action. This is parallel to a situation in the other text. Paul's army training chief, Colonel Himmelstoss, harasses him throughout the training course. However, as soon as he meets Himmelstoss in a real battle situation, he realizes the insecurities and the cowardice behind the bullying. The behaviour and emotion from both texts have similarities and contrasts.
Jim Saddler and Paul Bãumer, the two protagonists from Fly Away Peter' and All Quiet on the Western Front' respectively, had many similarities and both admired nature. Jim, for instance, had an unusual admiration and familiarity with nature and in particular, birds. Jim admired the freedom that such a small creature had, flying around the world with little need for care.
