Cloning Essay

Cloning is not just an idea of the future; it is not just some part of a surreal science fiction movie, Cloning has become a real race between scientists and ethicists- sort of like the tortoise and the hare. Because of the lack of regulation, most cloning goes completely unreported; the public has no idea how extensive cloning is. What science is doing has gone far beyond public knowledge. Of course scientists do not want to expose their research to public scrutiny; it would only bring their endeavors to a grinding halt until legislation catches up to them, if it ever does. Dolly the sheep, for example; was not announced until she had been gestated for seven months. The fact is that over 1 million clones were created in the last 24 months in the UK alone (Dixon). This is an outcry against the natural future of the human race. Cloning is happening and the public is not allowed informed consent.
To date there is little legislation on cloning. On an international scale scientists follow a "don't ask don't tell" policy when it comes to cloning. What laws that do exist can easily be sidestepped by performing the actual experiments in countries that have no laws concerning cloning. What is to stop scientists from pursuing cloning when they can prepare their experiments in the USA. Then fly out to another country where there is little or no legislation in place to stop them? Obviously there is nothing to stop these scientists from performing their experiments until laws on cloning are agreed upon and observed internationally. Cloning is not a national issue but a global one. .
There are three types of cloning or genetic research. The first and easiest method is called twinning. As the name implies all clones from this method are identical twins of each other. A fertilized egg is allowed to divide to the 32 or even 64 cell ball called a morula. The morula is nothing more than a 32 to 64 or even 128 cell ball of stem cells.
