No matter what period of time you look at, twins have always been the subject of human curiosity. This desire to know the truth about twinning has led to questions that makes us wonder about the individuality of ourselves. Do the tendencies received at birth affect us more than the tendencies afforded to us by environment? This is the question of Nature vs. Nurture. Francis Galton believed that nature has more an effect on who we become rather than our surroundings. He believes to prove this in his study of twins. In doing this experiment, he came to show us a greater understanding into the mystery that is twins. He sent out an inquiry for twins. There were basically 2 kinds of twins sought for this particular experiment. Twins, who were closely alike through out infancy and adolescence til around the age of 16, that either grew unlike or kept that same level of closeness (Nature). And also twins who were unlike from infancy to 16 that grew closer or apart (Nurture). The twins used were identical either boys or girls. .
Most people think that twins who are identical would possess average likenesses occasionally possessing extreme likenesses or dislikes. Actually the most common among twins is either extreme similarity or extreme dissimilarity. While fraternal twins that are boy and girl hardly ever possess a pattern, but this is most likely due to the fact that they are born of 2 separate eggs and sexes. Galton's inquiry for twins resulted in 80 cases of close similarity twins, 35 of which he enters into great detail. .
In some of the twins there wasn't a single point of actual difference.
