As we get older we set goals and rules down for ourselves to help stay on track. As responsible young adults, we should think about these goals and which ones are best for us to live our lives by. Aphorisms are a great way to begin. Three aphorisms I've chosen to live by are "Stitch in time saves nine", "Don't cry over spilled milk", and "Glass, china, and reputation are easily cracked but never well mended". Abiding by these rules is a wonderful way to stay on the right track in life.
"Stitch in time saves nine". When my boyfriend and I got into a fight, which was his fault, I wanted nothing to do with him. I tried to get off the phone with him and he wound up hanging up on me. Normally, I would call him back but this time I decided not to. By doing what he did, he began digging himself his own grave. About twenty minutes later, he called back on said, .
"I made a mistake and I"m sorry. Will you please forgive me?" He climbed out of his grave before he put himself six feet under. All his means is that instead of keeping a problem going take immediate action to correct a mistake. Fix it before it develops into a bigger, unwanted problem.
"Don't cry over spilled milk". A few months ago, one of my close friends and her boyfriend took a break from seeing each other as part of a mutual agreement. They originally planned to get back together after about a month or so, but he went off and did his thing and never gave my friend another thought. They barely talk anymore and he's turned into such a stupid, incompetent, detestable person. Instead of whining and harping on the fact that he wronged her, she moved on. She made a quick decision that if he was going to be that way then she didn't need him, and she was right. In connection with the said aphorism, this means to not stay stuck on things that happened in the past. What's done is done and there is not much you can do to change that.
