He then devises a plan in which he asks a rich student called Joey to pay a guy called Patrick to date her. This works as Patrick dates Kat and tames her before finally falling in love with her. Cameron then also goes out with Bianca.
Other differences between the two movies include the settings of the two movies. Taming of the Shrew was set in the Italian town of Padua while Ten Things I Hate About You is set in an American suburban community. The names of the characters are also different. Instead of the name Katherina for the shrew it is changed to Kat, instead of Petruchio it is changed to Patrick and instead of Lucentio it is changed to Cameron in Ten Things I Hate About You. However it is understandable that such name changes would take place as Ten Things I Hate about You is a modern day version of the play Taming of The Shrew and if modern day audiences are going to be able to relate to the movie the names would have to be changed.
Another minor difference is that in Ten Things I Hate About You the famous line, "Kiss me Kate!" isn't said by Patrick. Instead, the opposite happens as Kat wants to kiss Patrick in the car but he doesn't want to kiss her as she was drunk.
In the Taming of the Shrew Bianca loves Petruchio from the beginning of the movie, but in Ten Things I Hate About You Patrick has to fight for her love as she first likes Joey, a model in her class.
Other minor differences include that there is no wager in the end of the movie to see which wife was the most loyal to her husband and there was no major speech by Kat in the end of Ten Things I Hate About You. Also in Ten Things I Hate About You Kat gives her motives for being the cold, violent, merciless girl that she is, because of an unpleasant experience that she had in year nine with Joey, whereas in Taming of the Shrew we are not given an explanation for why Katherina acts the way that she does in the movie.
