Freedom is an illusion

Not so long ago there was a movement called the hippie revolution-, which proclaimed the freedom of individual. Despite it's huge impact on people around the world it is nowadays dying along with people from that era. Very often we ask ourselves what freedom really is and can we be free in such strict systems of policies and laws. Times have changed and so have our needs.
Just as we speak people walk to their offices with a beautiful perspective of spending another day rushing for money, brighter career, better living standard, and of course new IKEA furniture. Others stay at home worrying if they will survive another day with 10 bucks left. Both lives are in some way tragic. Nowadays we just don't seem to have any time to stop and think of other things than survival. Even if we have some pauses during the day we often spend them on something not connected with the process of thinking simply because we want to forget. We want to forget about our problems, sad things that touch our everyday lives, and relax a little bit listening to music or watching some senseless TV show. .
People say that philosophers died long time ago when the first major corporation was built. Who cares about freedom in times ruled by numbers? Fortunately we still have some humanity left in ourselves and although nobody talks about it almost everyone dreams of it. But we need some impulse to enable us to forget about other things. That's why we often tend to take up different illusory substances such as alcohol, cigarettes, or more and more popular drugs. It's sad, but necessary for us to get rid of the stress that cumulates in our bodies during office hours and everyday duties. And because this seems to be the only way of escape we don't think of it as something bad. Just something inevitable. Unfortunately this is the way of falling from one illusion into another. Instead of having a good time we find ourselves addicted and ruled by things that we thought would help us to escape.
