Amazing grace

Amazing Grace written by Jonathan Kozol is a narrative work that explores the mediations and reflections of some very young black and Hispanic children who although they live in one of the most violent, diseased communities in the developed world they retain a soaring spiritual transcendence (Amazing Grace. (n.d.). Retrieved March 28, 2003, from http: //www. Albany.edu/writers-inst/kozol.html11k) The book Amazing Grace takes place in the South Bronx of New York, the poorest congressional district of America.
There has always been talk about poor children and the hopeless lives they live but there has never been a book being written from what they had to say. I feel that hearing the stories and explanations of what was going on by the children of Mott Haven made it more believable. By the author having the children tell their stories in their own words it gave the book unusual sensitive, dignified warmth (Mott Haven Recent New excerpts. (nd.). Retrieved March 28, 2003, from http: //www. Neasc.org/annual-meeting.anlmtg7.htm-12k). The children of Mott Haven may be badly educated and brutalized by poverty, but they are no means less human they any of us. Throughout this is that is being reinforced. .
When children talk they are so open and honest it was refreshing and made me continue to want to read the book. I enjoyed how they explained things such a burning bodies and the bear tree. I found myself wanting to keep reading to see what other type of clever thing that the children would say. Kozol says the crucial question we should be raising is not those who try to identify the current problem in our society, or the strategies to use in dealing with those problems. But rather we must question the structure of our society (Amazing Grace. (n.d.). Retrieved March 28, 2003, from http: //www. Albany.edu/writers-inst/kozol.html11k).
In Motts Haven many of the children face depression from the circumstances they deal with on an everyday bases.
