First solo

            
             I had been taking instructions from Greg S. I had been the day before to get my physical at Walnut Ridge. .
             The next day I made the twenty minute drive to Walnut Ridge where I met the instructor. The whole way up there things were running through my head. Was I going to crash, could I do this alone, was I ready? Finally, I made it to the place I was supposed to meet Greg. As I walked into the huge building in front of me I noticed I was shaking and my hands were very sweaty.
             We sat at the table and went over a few important details before it was time to see if I was ready. I walked out the back door of the office and stood there on the concrete looking around. I could see the wind was blowing a little, but not enough to matter, I was going to have to do this today. .
             Eventually I got up the nerve to walk over and climb into the machine. After going over my checklist, I gave my radio call and stared at the long strip of pavement in front of me. It was time. I gave it full throttle as I kept it straight on the long line of pavement. Finally I had worked up enough speed and I pilled back on the stick. I was flying. .
             Once I lifted off the ground, it took a lot of pressure off my chest. I knew I wouldn't have any trouble keeping it in the air, the hard part was now landing. I flew around the airport for about twenty minutes till it was time to land. The nervous feeling arose in my stomach again. I dropped my altitude to twelve hundred feet and worked my way into the flight pattern. Every airport requires every aircraft to fly in the flight pattern which is no higher than twelve hundred feet when downwind to the runway. I made two radio calls which is required by the airport to let other planes in the area to know where you are. I then lined up on the runway for my final approach. The runway lights were showing that my altitude and angle of approach were correct. I put my flaps out to twenty degree's to slow the aircraft down and to give me lift and pulled my throttle back and my carb heat out, which is what keeps the motor from freezing up when the power is pulled back.
