Was slavery the main cause of the civil war

The Civil war began as a result of conflicting ideals between the North and the South. While the economy of the South heavily depended upon slaves, the economy of the North was almost solely based on industry and therefore relied on the South to buy their goods. With the troubles over the economy both the north and the south were on the verge of explosion. Even though slavery played an important role in the ignition of the Civil War, the fight between the North and the South to gain political equality was the more prominent aspect that caused the Civil War to begin.
Slavery was involved in the reasons for fighting however it did not cause the intense hostility between the south and the north. During the time of bleeding Kansas, the north and the south were sending as many people over as possible due to the fact that this area was under the Kansas-Nebraska act which said that the people in these areas should decide whether the state should be slave or free soil. So naturally the north and the south wanted to occupy as many people with their same belief to enable them to gain control. This may have caused a little tension between the north and the south but what really led to the resentment was the desire for power. With this power they could rule the nation since the united states had three branches of government the more representatives you have the more power you will have. Also, the fugitive slave law which said that slaves ,even though they lived in the north, could not be tried by a jury and the northern whites had to aid in the capture of the slaves. The issue was that the north was being forced to help with the capture of slaves, not the fact that slaves couldn't have a fair trial. Slavery as does many other issues have other complex issues inside them that leds to a direct cause for an event.
The south seceded from the nation for the reason that they felt that they were loosing power.
