Good Parenting

As he asks again, she answers the phone with a laugh and informs her friend she is not busy at the moment. This lack of attention would make any child feel insignificant, and cause self-worth issues. She is also unable to show Conrad any affection. She repetedly tells her husband that she is not an affection person, and that she cannot just go around hugging everyone. These statements are contradicted when the flashbacks of her with Buck are seen. She shows him plenty of affection but in a friendship way rather than son. His inability to be around for his son, and his alcoholism interfered with his ability to be a good parent, however, he did love Raymond. .

Conversely, being able to provide basic things such as food, clothing, and a home should be required of all parents. .

This shows that having more money and possessions does not make parents any better or allow the family to function any more "ordinarily.
