Political writing according to the American Heritage Dictionary is defined as "of, relating to, or dealing with the structure or affairs of government, politics, or the state" (1015). Politics exist all around us - in our schools, in our workplaces, and in our government. There, whether we are aware of it or not, politics influences our lives today and our dreams for tomorrow. First of all, politics is an activity; it is not a thing, like a rock, something that is simply there. Politics arise in societies made up of different groups, with different interests and traditions. These groups, existing together, on the same territory, or in the same governmental unit, have rival interests that make a common government essential if there is to be any order. One of he main ways America maintains order is by the United States constitution and the Bill of Rights. Another important aspect of politics is that it allows us to have political parties. These organizations allow people with the same beliefs to come together and talk about issues of our government. Also, without politics, people would never know what is going on in our world, because politics keep us informed. These next few paragraphs will talk about how politics are necessary to put order in our government, how it allows people with the same beliefs to come together, and how politics keep us informed.
The first eight amendments to the constitution contain the fundamental rights and freedoms of every citizen. These amendments give us rights like freedom of speech, the right to bear arms, the right to a speedy and public trail, and many others. Without these laws America would not be able to function. They give us structure, rules, and guidelines to follow, and because of them America runs smoothly. However, if we did not have these rules to follow America as well as any other country without rules would suffer. People would be allowed to kill other people and not suffer consequences.
