The pearl

The night was dark and Kino could feel the sea's cool breeze brush against his hair. Kino and Juana were excited for their new life as they traveled across the sea. Coyotito lay in Juana's arms quiet and helpless. They arrived in the dawn tired but anxious at the same time. Kino helped Juana and Coyotito out of the rusted canoe as they began their journey to a new life. Kino said, "We must forget about everything that happened before." Kino stood confidently and strong knowing that he would sell the pearl today and earn great fortune for it. He left Juana and Coyotito in a nearby deserted hut. Kino and his uncle, Gustavo, who lived in the city, walked across the sandy road until they met the greedy buyers. Kino met the first buyer, he thought, I cant let them try to cheat me again. The buyer made estimation, Kino said "higher". Another buyer yelled a higher estimation this buyer had more of a stern voice. Kino knew this was the highest number of pesos he would get so with that he gave one last and long look at the pearl. The evil song repeated once more in his head. Kino put his hands over his ears and with disgust he moaned. The buyers gave Kino an unsure look and silence swept the crowd. Gustavo said "What is it Kino?" Kino did not answer for he knew what he had to do. So soon enough he found himself running as fast as he could holding the pearl so tightly in his hand soars began to form in his palm. Kino arrived at the hut and told Juana to get Coyotito and come with him quickly. She did with no questions asked for she knew Kino was finally about to listen to his heart instead of his mind. They arrived at the shore out of breath and Coyotito crying aloud. They looked at each other knowing exactly what the other was thinking and for the first time in along time they agreed. Coyotito grew silent and Kino gave one last hard look at the pearl and with that he threw pearl with all his might.
