Although he was born poor, he had many opportunities throughout his life. As a young adult he held jobs as a shop keeper and a field lord, his practical thinking helped throughout this life. He was known for his morally honest and right deeds. He derived much of his wisdom from his first teachers, Chou Kings, Wen and Wu. Confucius traveled frequently, on one particular trip he is said to have met Lao Zi, founder of Daoism. Confucius became the first professional teacher in ancient China. He was married and had a son and daughter. .
Although he never involved in it, he was largely concerned with improving government and society , he taught that workers lacked virtue in their society. Confucius pupil" Zi Zhang described the ideal worker in this quote: " A public servant who on confronting danger is prepared to lay down his life, who on confronting gain concentrates on what is right, who when sacrificing concentrates on reverence, who when mourning concentrates on grief should definitely be all right." This description covers most of the qualities Confucius considered virtuous. Through his wisdom, he wrote many books of analects from which he taught from. Other factors in being virtuous in Confucius mind were sincerity and a willingness to learn, minimal desire for material things, loyalty, self cultivation, filial piety, extensive knowledge of ritual and poetry, humility, and a good grasp on how to conduct oneself when dealing with others. He also believed how you go about trying to achieve something, is more important than actually doing it. Because the rulers at his time were not virtuous, they did not please the common people. He points out that the actions of successful historical figures as examples as good and virtuous behavior.
