Mission Impossible 2 Trailer

This is a code and convention of the action genre because they are trying to show that he is sophisticated and wise and trying to show he is the boss and the one with brains. They use violence in the movie. This represents action and makes the trailer faster paced. They use a bad guy in the trailer. A bad guy is always used in an action film. This is another code and convention for an action film. We know he is the bad guy because they show a clip of him being in a fight with Tom Cruise who is the main character and the good guy. In the trailer they portray the hero as a cool, ladies man, bit arrogant and a risk taker. This is a typical stereotype for a hero in an action film. We know the bad guy is a bad guy because he is dressed in black and he wears suspicious clothing and tries to kill the good guy and you never get to see his face.
At the start of the trailer it starts with a long camera shot and then zooms in on the main character. They zoom in on him so then you focus your attention on to him. They then do a high angle camera shot. This shot makes the main character seem more vulnerable and it is highlighting the danger he is in by him hanging on the cliff face. The lighting used in the trailer is either red/orange or black/white. The red/orange lighting represents the image of fire and it also gives the impression of violence what will help establish that it is a action film. The black/white lighting gives the impression of hi-tech making it seem a more up to date movie and with the black/white lighting it helps introduce the special gadgets because the lighting gives it that touch. During the trailer they do a series of close edits, this is called a montage. The pace of the trailer changes during the edits. They do this to get you hooked at different points and with the slow parts they are drawing you in for the fast action filled bits. In the trailer they use dissolves this takes you through a passage of time at a slow gentle pace.
