Goodnight Mr Tom

After a lot of searching he does eventually find him, he's in a cupboard tied up to a pipe holding a baby and hasn't saw daylight for days. Tom immediately takes him to hospital and feels partly responsible for the shocking state Will is in. When Will finally shows signs from recovering from his terrible ordeal, the social services want to put him in a home but Tom wants to take him home back to Little Weirwold. When he's told he's not allowed, Tom takes the law in to his own hands and breaks it by kidnapping Will. He only has his best interests in mind though.
A couple of weeks later Will's Mother commits suicide and his best friend Zack dies in London whilst visiting his parents. Will can't cope with this so Tom helps him. Firstly by getting full foster care of Will. After this Tom helps Will to grow up and become the person he was destined to be.
This novel ties in very cleverly with today's events and issues. Abuse is still a very big problem and still something we have to deal with. War also is an issue that we are coping with everyday. As my country and other countries around the globe are presently and constantly faced with the prospect of fighting. Although this book is set during World War Two it very much still affects today's world with the topics raised in it. Therefore we can get an even better understanding of the novel, than we usually would, and become more emotionally involved with the characters.
A lot people in Little Weirwold loved Will, especially by his friends and of course Tom. When he first came to Little Weirwold he was very shy and timid. He wasn't cheeky and would only talk when spoken to or asked. It was Tom's love that eventually brought him out of his shell. They had a great understanding of each other and an excellent relationship. Will filled the gap in Tom's life and Tom provided the essential ingredient in Will's life - love and a secure grown up figure and a father, this was what Will needed for him to mature.
