             Why does Iaga hate Othello? Who refers to Othello's race and how/why?.
            
             Iaga doesn't really seem to have a precise reason for his hatred of Othello other then the fact that Othello passes over him and selected someone else for the vacant position of lieutenant. Even though Iaga has been well praised by Othello for his leadership in battle, Othello gives the lieutenant position to another man with no battle leadership experience. Iaga also has a degree of suspicion that Othello has slept with his wife and wants to somehow get back at him for this. Iaga's resentment towards Othello has probably been brewing because of this and also of the obvious fact that Othello overlooked him for the lieutenant position.
             When Roderigo maliciously informs Brabantio that Othello supposedly stole his daughter and has sexual relations with her all the time, he accuses Othello of witchcraft. Brabantio starts to make racist comments towards Othello because he doesn't understand how his daughter could marry a man like Othello who is dark skinned. Brabantio thinks that the only way Othello could have gotten Desdemona to fall in love with him was through witchcraft. Brabantio makes these racial remarks and accusations of witchcraft because it's the only legitimate way to get his daughter back.
             When we are first introduced to the characters, Roderigo and Iaga are discussing their resentment towards Othello and they only refer to him by his physical characteristics and race. When Roderigo informs Brabantio that Othello may have stolen his daughter they both make racist comments towards him because by doing this they make Othello seem more like a monster and a beast since that reader hasn't actually been introduced to Othello.
