Transracial adoption

Transracial adoption should be encouraged among all prospective adopters.
Transracial adoption is the adoption of a child of a race different from the adoptive parent. All children deserve the right to be part of a loving family; no matter if they are Caucasian, African American, Asian, or any other race. .
Love should be colorblind. If a child is loved, should that not be the most important aspect? Every child wants a permanent, loving home in which to live. They do not mind what race the adoptive parents are. "I remember when I was a little kid and people would say to me, "Hey you have a white mom."" Jay (African American) recalls, "I just said. "So." I was just happy to get out of the foster homes" ("Single" 2). Minority children usually have to wait twice as long to be adopted as nonminority children. Not to mention, the longer a child stays in foster care and the older the child gets, there is less of a chance that he or she has of being adopted. "Many children today are wallowing in unstable foster or institutional care rather than being placed with adoptive parents of another race" (Perez 1). If more people were willing to adopt transracially, children getting older would not be such a concern.
Some people believe that transracial adoption is wrong. They do not think that children should be brought up in any culture other then their own. The National Association of Black Social Workers think:.
Black children should be placed only with black families whether in foster care or adoption. Black children belong physically, psychologically and culturally in black families in order that they receive the total sense of themselves and develop a sound projection of their future Black children in white homes are cut off from the healthy development of themselves as black people We have committed ourselves to go back to our communities and work to end this particular form of genocide. (qtd. In "Transracial" 1).
