Raphael sanzio


            Raphael, considered one of the greatest and most popular artists of all time, was born Raffaello Santi or Raffaello Sanzio in Urbino on April 6, 1483. Raphael was a painter of the Italian High Renaissance. Raphael, however, lived a short life and was not able to display his full potential of his abilities in the arts. Raphael's work was inspiration for many artists and is still used today. In his short, tragic, lifetime he was able to display some of the most prolific and sought after pieces of artwork in the history of the world. .
             Raphael's parents of Giovanni Santi and Magia di Battista Ciarla. His mother died in 1491. His father was a painter. His father was not achieving great success with his own work but much progress in teaching his son. He was, however, in constant contact with the advanced ideas of the artwork around Italy. He gave his son his first instruction in painting, and, before his death in 1494, when Raphael was 11,he opened up all these ideas to his son.
             Urbino, Raphael's hometown, had become a center of culture during the Renaissance. . Although Raphael was influenced by major artists in Florence and Rome, Urbino was the basis for all his learning of the arts. Furthermore, the cultural vitality of the city probably stimulated the exceptional youth of his artwork. Even at the beginning of the 16th century, when he was just turning 17 years old, was already displaying an extraordinary talent in the work he was painting. .
             Raphael arrived in Perugia on December 10th,1500. He served as an apprentice for The great Umbrian master Pietro Perugino. In addition to this teaching him the basic techniques to be a better painter, Perugino's style also influenced Raphael. Raphael mimicked his style so much there artwork was turning up identical in the design of certain objects and people.
