Affirmative actions

The article "Ending Affirmative Actions" was written by Terry Eastland, a well known writer who contributes to a lot of conservatives journals in USA. In this article the author is exposing his opinion and sustains it with arguments a very controversial issue in our days, Affirmative Actions. .
The intent of Affirmative Action is to help cut down discrimination in the work place and in schools, but the Terry's argument is that this is a form of reverse discrimination He addresses the subject of race-based decisions making in hiring, admissions in universities and other professional promotions. Those people who are the beneficiaries of those laws have a higher chance to get a job or to graduate from college with a higher GPA just because of the color of their skin or because of their nationality. Terry is totally against those laws and I strongly agree with him. There are several reasons why those affirmative actions should be abolished as soon as possible and the first one is that this is a form of discrimination. We live in a democratic society where the equality between the citizens is one of the most important right we have, and having such laws promoting some groups of people just because of their ethnicity is not fair, and it contradicts the principles of democracy. On the other hand some people who benefit from those actions, can get a better job even they are equally or maybe less qualified for that job than the people who do not benefit from that. This way the spirit of competition between different professionals will die, and the people won't be so willing to fight for progress, resulting a global decline.
Terry Eastland gives us a very good example which is so much relevant to this topic. The sport is one field which is governed by those "colorblind rules" and is working very well. Here nobody receives special treatment, nobody is favorite, nobody gets extra points just because he belongs to a special minority group.
