             What is so funny about this scene is how open he is about his affair with his wife. What most people would usually keep a secret he openly shares. Then Malcom takes it even further saying, "People have no morals these days." This social observation is humorous because he quite clearly falls into the same category as Egerman. .
             "I can tolerate my wifes infidelity, but when anyone touches my mistress, I become a tiger!" .

             " I can tolerate my mistress deceiving me but if anyone touches my wife I become a tiger!".
             When Anne goes into Henriks room and forces him to take of his old coat, slippers and pipe we get a sense that she might be jelous that.

             They all drink the mysterious wine from Mrs Amfeldt, immeditaltly the effects of it begin to take place. Henrik's breaks through his usual barrier of silence and speaks out against his father. He smashes wine glasses and disobeys his father's wishes for him to be silent or leave the table. This scene is one of the first in the film that lacks any comedic, sarcastic or humorous overtone. .

             The dinner scene also sets many of the evenings events in motion. For example it becomes clear that Anne has feelings for Henrik, and that this enrages Fredrik. As Henrik leaves the dinning room Anne, fearful that he might harm himself, .
             Henrik's suicide attempt humorously leads to the profession of his love for Annes and hers fo him. .
